The Chicken Or The Egg And Internet Marketing. What? (Company News)

This ever ongoing argument about the chicken and the egg that never
seems to stop and sometimes can provide highly emotional reactions from
many folks even today's world where modern science provided the answer
almost without any doubt, is very intriguing to think about if we apply
it to the world of Internet Marketing.

Many times an independent observer can find a similar emotionally
heated situation unfold when watching an argument between two camps of
people: the ones who favor Pay Per Click advertising and the others who
stand by Search Engine Optimization (SEO) coupled with Social Media
Marketing when it comes to different methods of making a website
popular on the Internet. This could be a seemingly unimportant issue
and it can be easily dismissed by many as 'geek talk' that an average
person would not understand anyway. However, if you are a business
owner, you might want to listen up because as you may know, you would
need to familiarize yourself with this funky thing called Internet
advertising if you want your business to survive at all.

How can we make such a bold statement?

Take a look at the current state of the economy today. It is a major
mess and many people say that nobody really has a solution and nobody
knows if the recently passed stimulus package would work at all. We
have no crystal ball either. But once you examine the current situation
you can suddenly realize, that no other company than those who have
solid Internet presence or the ones who actually make the Internet
happen as it is today are not on the brink of bankruptcy because they
still have a lot of cash. In fact, many of these companies are still
hiring even when most others are currently laying off people by the
thousands.

So here is the reality

The companies with solid Internet presence have cash and they are still
hiring and will keep hiring. How do they drive traffic to their
websites? Many of them use Internet marketing experts like us who
create pay per click and social media campaigns for them and they make
sure that visitors who come to their websites will become buyers by
providing highly relevant content. Now cash rich companies like the big
corporations that still have huge advertising budgets can easily do
both at the same time. But if you have a limited advertising budget
because you are not Amazon.com, but a small business owner who are just
trying to learn about Internet marketing, then you really need to watch
where your advertising dollars go.

One thing that you should not do:

start
wasting your money now on newspaper or Yellow Pages ads because the
proven fact is that they no longer work. If you have ads in those
mediums that work, keep them, but if you experienced a significant drop
in their effectiveness, you need to explore other ways. These other
ways are pay per click advertising or search engine optimization
coupled with social media advertising on the the Internet. Question is:
which one should you start using first when you have a limited
advertising budget?

That is where lies the problem of the chicken or the egg...

One
camp says you should start using search engine optimization coupled
with social media marketing first because you need to bring as many
visitors to your website as possible because even when only a few of
them become buyers you still made money and bringing them to your
website did not cost you any money. Search engine optimization is
nothing else, but applying certain methods in creating content on your
website that fulfill all the requirements set by search engines in
order to give the site a high ranking score. A high score means that
your site could show up in the first two pages among the search
results. Which means visitors to your site would likely buy from you if
your content is good enough.

In plain English:

you must make a content rich website that search engines 'like' in
order to be on the first two pages among the search results. An
excellent tool to achieve high rankings in the search engines is social
media marketing. You already probably heard about Facebook, Linked-In,
Twitter, YouTube, Digg and many similar highly visited websites (called
social networking sites) where you as a business owner can sign up as
an individual or as a business and start 'making friends' with other
users. These highly visited sites rank high in the search engines so a
link to your business could easily and up high as well if you get
enough links back to your site.

There is even a bigger advantage

You can also
perform certain marketing activities and ask your friends to perform
these activities for you in their network and ask their friends to
promote your business too. This way because of the exponential
'snowballing' effect of networking many visitors can come to your site
and eventually some of them will buy your product or service. You can
also get almost instant feedback from your on-line friends and their
friends about your website, your products and services and your
promotional ideas. These friends tend to be very honest when it comes
to criticism. When you have enough friends who agree with you on your
idea of rolling out a new product or service or simply promoting your
existing ones, then you have a good chance for a successful launch. But
when the majority of them disagrees with you, then you should
reconsider or should tweak your product or service until they like it.
Your friends are your 'focus group' and basically you are doing market
research this way.

Question is:

How are you getting these friends of yours in the first place? Unless
you already have many off-line friends who are Internet savvy plus
their friends who are Internet savvy too, you have a problem. You must
have exceptionally good content on your website to generate interest so
people would start showing interest in your product or service and
basically start working for you for free when they promote you to their
friends. I do not know how you are, but in our experience, many small
business owners do not have that many Internet savvy friends.

And here comes the other problem:

How do you decide what good content is? Whatever you think is good
content for you is not necessarily interesting enough for other people.
So you need to do market research and have your on-line 'focus group'
in the first place. Now that is the problem of the chicken or the egg.
It is almost an unsolvable problem for the less trained. Of course, you
can also go with your gut feeling and you might be lucky on-line if you
had a good product or service off-line in the first place. However,
having a good product or service off-line does not guarantee any
on-line success if people are not looking for your successful off-line
product or service on the Internet in the first place.

There is even a bigger problem:

Say you were lucky and found the right content for your website for the
first try (it is almost impossible) and not only your visitors, but the
search engines 'like' the content you presented or you hired someone
who did a couple of 'magic tricks' for you pretending to create an
'optimized website' for you for the search engines (in other words:
performing the so called SEO (search engine optimization)) by 'fooling'
the search engines, you can still run into many risks. Say, some SEO
'expert' used some black hat (in other words: illegal) tactics to
'fool' or spam the search engines and your website gets listed in the
first two pages, their solution will only be temporarily as search
engines always figure it out and ruthlessly punish those who try to
'fool' them. And guess what? It is not the guy who did the work for you
who gets punished, but your website and your business because it gets
blacklisted and it will never show up on the first two pages again.

So what can you do now?

There is another way to approach this problem. It is called pay per
click advertising or PPC. There are companies who created websites
where they let people search the Internet for anything. These websites
are called search engines. You probably already heard of them. There
are hundreds of them, but the most frequently visited are Google,
Yahoo, Windows Live and Ask. You might not heard about is the way their
PPC advertising works. We are only going to talk about Google's PPC a
bit because almost 70% of people use Google for searching and Google's
PPC is somewhat different than the others. Once you mastered Google's
PPC, the others can be a cakewalk.

What is PPC?

When we correctly want to describe PPC, we have to talk about Google
first a bit. When you do a search in Google you would see the results
page divided into two columns. The wide column contains the so-called
'organic' search results. They are determined by Google's automated
search algorithm. This algorithm is nothing else, but a sophisticated
computer program that 'makes its decision' based on many relevancy
factors that Google shares with the world only to a certain extent to
avoid the previously described 'fooling' by unscrupulous advertising
'experts' (we like to call them Internet criminals, to be honest). As
its name describes, PPC is based on a simple concept. In the narrow
column on the right side among the search results, most of the time you
see many different small text ads once you search for something. In
other words, you type in a search keyword or many keywords (called the
keyword phrase) in the appropriate search field. The ads that show are
related, in other words, they are relevant to the search keywords that
the person who performs a search typed in. The more related a certain
ad is to the search term, the higher position it can achieve.

The higher the position of an advertiser's ad is

in, the higher the chance that a person who searches for something
would click on it. Advertisers bid on certain keywords or key phrases
that they are willing to pay when someone clicks on their ad that would
lead the searcher to the advertiser's website. The higher the bid an
advertiser provides the better the chance that his or her ad shows in a
higher position.

However, if the ad is totally irrelevant to the search keywords

it most likely ends up showing lower than an ad that is more relevant
to the same keyword or phrase even though its corresponding bid for the
same keyword that triggered the ad was less than the previous,
irrelevant ad. As we previously mentioned, Google's sophisticated
search algorithm determines what is relevant and what is not so the
subjective human factor that could provide biased results is totally
eliminated from the system. Therefore, all advertisers are at the same
playing field and what really matters is not how much money you have as
an advertiser, but how relevant you are. This highly controlled, yet
creative environment, allows small companies with a good niche go
against a huge corporation and win. It is a true David against Goliath
battle and Google actually let David win if he is more relevant.

Most importantly,

you do not have to have many Internet savvy friends

who
essentially have to work for you for free for many months to provide
initial visitors to your website. With Google's PPC advertising,
visitors can come to your site as soon as in 15 minutes. More bad news
for social media advertisers is that Google now watches for not only
link popularity, but link quality as well. They mercilessly 'slap out'
irrelevant comment spam. We wrote about e-mail spam in a previous
article. Nowadays

the 'latest and greatest' technique of spamming is comment spam.

A guy in a basement writes a scipt that creates thousands of fake blogs
about a certain topic using a relational thesaurus database. The script
scans for other blogs that contain the related keywords and start
pulling prewritten comments from another database and start submitting
them to the related blogs making the search engine believe that the
original blog or website where all these artificially created
'satellite blogs' eventually point to is an authority, expert website
because of its high back link popularity. However, Google's algorithm
recognizes the pattern in the comments and punishes the spamming
website or blog instead of ranking it higher.

Google also finds many of the unscrupulous advertisers
who want to pay money for other websites to link back to them. In
Google's opinion, and we agree with this 100%, the Internet should be
free and open and only honest, hard work and relevant content should be
rewarded. So in todays world they 'slap out' websites who buy links
besides slapping out those who belong to a link exchange or a web-ring
scheme.

The only good way to advertise in social media is

to hire several professional expert copywriters who write relevant
articles on a daily basis and share them in blogs and forums and other
places where that certain topic is being discussed. Moreover, the
writers need to make expert comments (no comment spam!) on these forums
too. Now, if you think about the costs involved in doing Social Media
Marketing in the right way, you might get discouraged.

The good news is that you can always use PPC first to test

out your initial website and tweak it until you reach your desired ROI.
After the first few months (sometimes even weeks) you should be able to
find your true niche that does great on the Internet, so you can afford
to build up some Social Media Marketing as well. We do not want to
discourage you from Social Media at all. If you feel that you have the
capacity and time, by all means, do it. The sooner you start doing it
the sooner your website could show up among the organic search results
(on the left side, the wide column among the search results). However,
in today's economy when businesses work razor thin advertising budget
where you want to keep track of every penny you spent.

And here we just answered the question of the ongoing debate about the 'chicken or the egg':

In other words: do you have to start with Social Media Marketing or PPC
to bring your initial visitors fast? We believe that in most cases,
especially when you have a low budget,

you absolutely have to start with PPC.

Now that does not mean that you do not have to do some initial Search
Engine Optimization when you start your website. Of course you have to.
Your search engine optimization should actually evolve as you get
closer and closer to your best producing (highest ROI generating)
keywords with time. Constant search engine optimization is a must along
with your PPC campaign. However, you Social Media Marketing should not
start until you find good writers who help you.

You may argue that you have a great idea

and you already know what sells on-line. That sounds great, but would
not it worth testing it first before you start putting too much time
and money into an idea that might not even work? What you initially
show to your visitors in your initial version of your site will
determine where you want to go next based on your test results. Even
when you think you know it all, you might be wrong because the Internet
is a whole different world and the rules that worked for you in
off-line marketing, do not necessarily apply. The good news is that
Google's PPC gives you a chance to test whether your off-line idea,
catch phrase or your product itself would work or not. And your result
can come in pretty fast depending on your daily budget and keyword bid
amounts.

Of course,

social media marketing people would argue

that Google should not be glorified and there are other ways of testing
an idea just like the previously described social media marketing where
people on Facebook, or Twitter will tell you whether they like your
idea or not. And yes, this way of testing could work as long as you
have many computer savvy friends. If you do not, then you need time (we
are talking about months) to run just one test. Do you have many months
just for testing in this economy? We did not think so either.

So how do you actually test your idea, catch phrase, product in Google?

Very
simple. You always have to create two competing versions of your ad,
title, phrase, coupon, product and the page that shows them (the page
that will show right after a searcher clicked on your ad is called your
landing page) and compare the two and declare a winner. How is the
winner declared? Obviously, the version that made you more sales or
brought in a higher return on investment (ROI) on your advertising
dollars. You have to keep refining the winner until you reach your
desired ROI. Easier said than done. Google provides you with
state-of-the-art, objective, unbiased tools for measuring your results.
To write about all the technical details of the testing would make this
article longer than it should be and this article would really turn
into 'geek talk' that would make many people's eyes glazed over pretty
fast.... So we'd rather spare you from the technical details and tell
you why

social media marketing can almost never be unbiased.

Because
there is always a leader of in a community of people and the leader
will tell the rest of the people what they should favor, social media
marketing will always be biased. Simple as that. Well, of course the
leader is not going to do this flat out, but in a subtle way. Of
course, on many social networking sites, just like on Twitter, action
is going on so fast that people really have to form their own opinion
independently from other users on the fly (many Twitter users actually
use their Blackberries or Iphones to give their own feedback almost
instantly). However, even on Twitter opinions can still be biased
sometimes because many people who follow highly respected 'gurus' in
their fields will do the exact same thing as their 'guru' does.

All in all, social networking sites are not reliable and measurable

for quantifying your advertising results. Google's PPC business model
is very simple. They want you to succeed because that is the only way
you stay with them in the long run. They do not want your cash fast,
but want your advertising dollars to work for you over time and want to
build a long lasting relationship with you. Now of course there are
people who are not familiar how exactly Google PPC works and they blow
a lot of money on it before they learn it. And yes, you definitely have
to learn it so you can do it in the right way, because otherwise you
will just donate your hard earned money to Google. Question is: are you
willing to take the time to learn it and implement it yourself or

would you rather run your business and trust your advertising needs to an expert?

Many times, some unscrupulous companies tell
business owners, just like you, that for a certain monthly fee they
would put you in the first page in the search engines. It sounds great,
but they forget to tell you, that they

do not put you in the organic results

write generic ads that show only until the money you paid to them dries out

and
they create a generic landing page for you that is in no way would make a visitor take action.

All they care about is collecting your hard earned money as their
monthly fees (whether it is only $50 or $250). Maybe you already tried
them and got burnt. For how many months did you pay them? How many
months passed by when finally you had enough and you realized that
there were no results and you became the part of a statistic? After how
much money you started saying that this "Internet thing is not working
for me and it would be better if I returned to the old school
methods."? Was there a different way that you could have spent that
money?

We feel your pain and we know that these Internet
criminals should be somewhere else instead of freely conducting
business. However, we do not write the law and we all know that

many times what is perfectly legal is not ethical.

Our company works by upholding the highest ethical standards when
conducting business. We always tell you how it is and we always set the
right expectations for you up front so you would not have any
surprises. We provide you with a strategic marketing plan and we work
on your advertising from day one right after you signed up with us. We
also provide easy to read logs at the end of each month that show you
where exactly your advertising dollars went and how they worked for you.

By the way: Let us tell you a secret.

Google's PPC is actually THE old school method that worked even in the Great Depression!

Obviously, Google did not exist during the Great Depression, but the
people at Google based their advertising business on the same concept
that was first used in the late 1800s way before the worldwide economic
crisis in the 1930s.

Before the advertising agencies

that create flashy posters, unmeasurable
graphic designs that would not say anything, but looked good, there
were actually people who quantified and tested every single title,
picture and paragraph in their ad copies, down to the science. And
guess what? These real 'old school' methods actually worked even during
the Great Depression. Nowadays many people are afraid of an economic
downturn similar to that era where the chronic lack of cash and the
unsolved real estate crisis created significant deflation and huge
unemployment. Today, many of the symptoms are very similar and most
business owners are frightened to spend the last money they think they
might have.

Of course, Google's 'old school' methods need to be learned and applied in the right way.

The good news today is

that we know exactly the reasons why the current downturn happened and
what to do about it. There are methods to start credit (which is
equivalent to cash for most businesses) flowing again. The other good
news is that today we have the Internet and Pay Per Click advertising
with sophisticated tracking and measuring tools to be able to tell you
within days or maybe only a few weeks whether a certain product,
service, headline, ad content would work or not so you would now
exactly how to spend your precious money to bring the biggest bang for
your buck. In those old days business owners who used systematic ad
testing and tracking had to wait for months for the results of their
testing efforts to show and they still succeeded eventually. Now, when
you have the leverage of the Internet and the right tools and our
highly trained professionals that businesses did not have during the
Great Depression, you have a huge advantage.

And the smartest ones who used scientific methods in advertising,
survived. This is your chance today. Even in this economic environment
you can still succeed.

We are optimistic

and we definitely believe that you and us working together for your
goals will make your business better off than without these efforts.
Now the real question is about your start date. The longer you wait,

treated individually. And that is exactly what we do. We sit down with
you and have you fill out a free, no obligation questionnaire

would work. We craft a Strategic Internet Marketing Plan for you that
would contain not only the marketing, but the maintenance services so
your web presence is always up to date.

The Most Effective Way of Internet Marketing (Company News)

What is spam and why is it expensive for YOU?

Have you received spam lately? You know, e-mail advertising Viagra or
some porn site? We do not say that all e-mail advertising Viagra and
porn are spam. We are pretty sure that there are folks out there who
are genuinely interested in that stuff...

Spam is actually a piece of e-mail that you never wanted to receive.
However, spamming is a very lucrative business and that is why many
companies tempted to do it. There are companies out there who sell 10
million e-mail addresses plus 10 thousand infected computer
identification numbers plus some tools allowing the spammer
(the individual or company sending out spam) to send out 10 million
e-mail messages in less then 2 hours. They sell this as a 'package
deal' on a DVD that maybe cost the spammer $1,000. Now if we look at
the numbers, you will see why spamming is so lucrative. Say the spammer
sends out 10 million e-mails. Let's say he gets a ridiculously low
response rate: 0.01 %. This is a hundredth of 1 percent. That is how
many people would buy from the spammer. Out of 10 million this means a
thousand people. Say the spammer sells his merchandise for $20 each. So
he made $19,000 in less than 2 hours...

There is
only one slight problem: Spam is illegal

Besides: it is costly, dangerous and unethical too. Many spammers who
got caught had to pay astronomical amounts of fines plus many of them
serve several years of prison sentences as well.

Why spamming is outlawed?

It puts an unnecessary burden to the mail servers on the computers on the Internet. Did you know that more than 80% of the e-mail delivered on the Internet is a spam
e-mail message? This high amount of data requires extra storage space,
extra cables, extra processing power from the internet service
providers (like AOL, AT&T, Comcast, RCN and COX, just to name a
few) and extra people to monitor all this. The extra staff needs to get
paid. All these are extra expenses for the ISPs who, without
hesitation, will eventually pass them to you, to the consumer.

Ever wondered why your Internet service cost so much?

That is why. A few spammers make everybody else pay the
costs of sending their spam out, but they are the only ones reaping the
rewards. This is unfair, unethical and dangerous.

Why
is it dangerous? Spammers use malware to infect unsuspecting people's
computers to turn them into spam sending zombies without the computer
owner's knowledge.

We deeply condemn spam, spammers and the companies (including hosting companies) who let spam exist and

we never, under any circumstances, recommend spamming to any of our Clients or anybody else.

We have to let you know about spam because we feel that you as a consumer have the right to know all options
out there and we want to fully disclose everything about the benefits
and the dangers of working with certain methods. Spam is certainly a
method that you do not want to work with.

But if
spamming illegal, how can money be made with e-mail marketing?

There is a

huge difference between e-mail marketing and spam.

We in fact call e-mail marketing as it is and spam as spam.

E-mail marketing is a basically a collection of methods of building
large, responsive e-mail lists on a volunteer basis where the
participating members eagerly wait to hear from you and buy from you
repeatedly.

Spam is unwanted, dangerous, unethical and illegal.

How can I
build a responsive e-mail list?

Building a list organically
(through blogging, writing e-zine articles, commenting on such
articles, building your presence in social networking media, etc.) takes a significantly longer time than doing it through paid on-line ad submission.

Based on our experience and research, your on-line ad submission can
bring in significant results if you sell goods and services worth less
than $20. However, a significant trust factor and multiple communications are needed
to be built if you sell products worth over $20. So on-line ad
submissions will bring faster results, but in line with other experts,
we stress that this method should be primarily used for e-mail address
collection to form an e-mail list.

Once your list is built, your results will come in fast

from professional e-mail campaigns. The results are not only fast, but they will grow exponentially as your marketing cost still stays flat.

Example

Let us say it cost you $100 to get 100 people to sign up to your e-mail list. Your conversion rate (the percentage of people who buy out of these 100 people on your list) is 10%. This means 10 people will buy from you. So if you sold something with a $10 profit, you broke even for the first time.
However, when you sell something else (or even the same thing) to the
same person for the second time with only $5 profit, (giving a chance
for discount to return customers) you still made a profit and your ROI
actually will be larger than 1, thus you made money and will keep making money as long as this same person keeps buying.

Just imagine how you would feel if you added three zeros after each number in the example above.

Each time you e-mail to your well-built, responsive list and sell something to the same people that are on your list already, you will be making pure profit because your cost of acquiring those customers (who is already on your list and buys from you) will be $0.

Treat your list as one of the most precious piece of your assets because it is a true goldmine for you.

Many successful businesses have been using organic web presence
building for quite a while. Those who know what they are doing can
build a significant list over time. But until recently no successful
business came even close to the size of the list that the Barack Obama
campaign managed to build in such a short period of time.

Almost all
successful Internet marketers agree that...

…your success or failure in making money off the Internet depends on your success of building a list of faithful buyers

Who buys from you over and over again? Just think about it. Remember our previous article in which we described how Barack Obama's campaign using the internet marketing techniques mentioned above
was able to raise money very quickly whenever they needed some? His
Internet marketers would just send out an e-mail to get those people
already on his e-mail list to donate just a little more.

The massive e-mail list made it possible to raise a lot of money even when each individual donated only a few dollars.

As we pointed
out...

...Your
business can do exactly the same

You send out relevant, informative, even entertaining messages, with a
very modest sales pitch at the end. People on the list will respond to
that. They do not want to receive ads and promotions. Your customers want to hear information, news, something interesting. Your marketing message should be very subtle and it should be hidden inside a good story accompanied with a lot of useful information.
The Truth About Internet Marketing (Company News)

"Get
rich, click..." Have you heard this slogan before?

Did you come across with people on the Internet who were promising you
the Holy Grail of making money, getting out the carefully guarded so
called "Secret Formula", the "Cookie Cutter Method", "from Rags to
Riches way", the "Superfast way to get on top of the search engines"
and a lot more?

	Then
it turned out that most of

these get rich quick schemes made only one person rich: the one who was selling the material.

Many of these materials were outright scams. Some of
them were legitimate methods once that actually made some nice chuck of
change for the inventor of the method for a relatively short period of
time, but as the times changed, many of these "secret to Internet
success" formulas, methodologies and sure-fire recipes became
completely obsolete.

One of the greatest examples of how these "great
methods" were instantly became totally useless almost overnight and
this whole "thriving industry" almost went under when Google made
significant changes in its search methods, applying the famous

"Google Slap".

A few years ago when Google noticed that too many
people start abusing its search engine's shortcomings and more and more
people started jumping the bandwagon, Google decided to do something
about it. They changed their search algorithm in a way that the old
methods of "fooling" its search engine would not work any more.

Google's business model is based on relevancy and
they eventually caught up with people who wanted to push irrelevant
websites in front of searchers for the expense of those who played by
the rules...

Google does not want its search engine to be "fooled"
and let some fly-by-night company or "Internet marketing guru" deliver
false results in front of searchers who look for a product, service or
information and care less about irrelevant results. "Fooling" search engines to deliver false results is not only unethical and unfair from the company who practices this method, but it also deprives the consumer its basic right to make an informed decision
before making a purchase. Therefore, today Google "slaps out"
irrelevant companies almost every month to deliver to its customers the
best and most relevant search results possible.

How do you
know all this and why are we "spilling the beans"

Once we were in your shoes. In fact, we bought several
of these methods to test them out and followed their instructions to
see if we were able to make money or not. After many years of careful and meticulous testing we found out that 99% of these "programs" are total garbage. The rest is pretty good and we learned a lot from them.

So our very simple conclusion is: there are some legitimate and
excellent tools out there that you can use for certain tasks to make
your website more relevant for search engines and some others to help
you build solid web presence and on-line trust, but there is no "Secret Method" or "Holy Grail" in Internet marketing.
There is no one size fits all. There cannot be packages. Each business,
each person is an individual and deserves to be treated as an
individual. And the most important thing in all: you have to work hard
to achieve the desired results.

If someone promises you that you can consistently make money on the
Internet without dropping a sweat, run to the other direction.

Seriously: why would the
Internet be any different from the real world? The Internet is created
by real people. Real people wrote the code that runs the web
applications and the the websites that form the Internet. When you, as
a business owner started your business, you needed to play by a certain
set of rules and work hard to make money, right? The Internet is no
different. Whoever is willing to play by the rules and work hard will make money consistently, day in and day out for the years to come.

What we noticed is that in the past few months some of these companies
started losing ground so they changed their pitch and many of them
toned their hyped up claims a bit and by now they have become more
slick. Nowadays almost everybody wants to do Internet marketing.
Now some of the wonderful web design companies are making adjustments
with the times. They once promised you a flashy web site and its
submission to "thousands of search engines" and promised instant
results, but nothing happened besides you losing a lot of money. Now
these companies are losing ground and waking up. Now they promise
"expert Internet marketing" for you. We have two words: watch out!

Why should
I believe you? What makes you different than those other guys? How
can I separate the good apples from the bad ones?

This is a legitimate question. And the answer is very simple: Ask
questions before you give anybody your hard-earned money. We can
actually reverse this: have your web design company asked any of the
questions that we are about ask in this questionnaire.

What are the factors you want to consider

when selecting a hosting company

for your web presence besides storage space and bandwidth?

The first question

that should come to your mind is: What is your goal? Why do you want to deal with a hosting company in the first place? Well, most likely you want to have a website.

The next question you want to ask from yourself:

What is the web site for? Why should I have a web site in the first place? Well, if you are a reasonable business person, you probably would answer this: "because I want to make money!". Meaning, the money you get out of the website (your on-line revenue) has to be higher than ALL of your expenses related to that website to make a profit. We are pretty sure that all this makes sense.

What are the related expenses?

Domain registration
	fee

Hosting fees

Website maintenance

Website marketing
	fees

and possible related
	taxes.

You add up all these expenses and subtract it from the revenue that your website generated and you can find out your profit and calculate your ROI (return on investment) easily. Sounds pretty straightforward, doesn't it?

One thing that we point out here:

even though, most hosting companies normally do not charge you separate maintenance and marketing fees for your website with their hosting package, they do offer these services on a limited basis for pretty high prices.

It is also important to note,

that your website will not be noticed at all without using these services. There are just way too many websites out there. So you can use the hosting company's overpriced services, try do it yourself (as we mentioned in our previous article high quality maintenance and marketing requires a lot of time) or hire a professional consulting company who specializes in these services and has a full time team of experts who assist you every step of the way. Now back to selecting a good hosting company.

Let's talk about finding the best value for the dollars

A good hosting company would keep your server space costs low and will not gauge you on the bandwidth fees. That is the bare minimum. They usually give you numbers in gigabytes (1,000 megabytes) for server space. 1 megabyte usually equals to one minute of music on your mp3 player.

To be able to compare two rivaling hosting companies

for your business, you want to measure the price they charge for the same service. You want to find out how much they charge for each megabyte of storage space. You also want to find out how much they charge for each megabyte of transferred data.

Determining these numbers are a good starting point,

but you should not base your decision on these numbers alone. The speed of the connection to the main arteries of the Internet is very important. In fact, it is much more important than the storage space (server space) or bandwidth they provide.

Did you know?

that a first time visitor to your website will give you only 15 seconds to let him/her know what you offer? If your website is hosted on a slow server, there is a good chance that it would take almost 15 seconds (or even more) for your website just to load!

If your visitor thinks that your website is too slow,

then he/she would think that you do not have the money for a faster server, so he/she would think that you are a small, fly-by-night company who just want to take his/her money and run.

Unfortunately, there are a lot of scammers out there who would do that and a lot of people already got burnt, so it is very difficult for a company with new on-line presence to build trust, unless they look WAY MUCH BIGGER than they actually are. To achieve this goal,

your company must have a fast server.

A good hosting company will have no problem disclosing their connection speed. They are actually proud of it. However, if you see that they are beating around the bush when it comes to disclosing their connection speed, then you probably are dealing with a less than an honest hosting company. The reason why most hosting companies do not like to disclose their server speed is because they use a technique called shared hosting.

This means that they host several hundred or even a thousand websites on the same server under a plan called 'shared hosting'.

What does shared hosting actually mean?

It means you not only share the same server with hundreds or even thousands of other web sites on the same remote computer (thus sharing its hard drive, CPU and memory), but you also share the connection. There is usually not a problem with this setup as most servers are using state-of-the-art technology and ultra fast, high performance operating systems to run the web sites. You know,

your web site is basically nothing else,

but a bunch of files sitting in a folder on the remote computer. The problem starts when one website in your website's 'neighborhood' gets a lot of visitors, in other words, its traffic increases. This can cause a major problem for not only you, but all the websites residing on the same server or, as a matter of fact, on the same server branch. Why? The server where your website sits on in a certain folder belongs to a so-called

server branch.

A branch is actually a set of servers that usually placed on top of each other on racks in a remote building and they are all directly interconnected with a high speed fiber optic cable. Many of these branches and these cables are eventually get connected to a main cable that is connected to the outside world.

In other words:

the main connection to the outside world is branched out to groups of servers inside the building.

If your website is located on a a certain server that belongs to a branch that is connected to another server that hosts (has) a web site with very high traffic, your website (along with the rest of the websites on the same branch) can suffer a significant speed decrease affecting YOUR website's speed, thus your bottom line.

So if you think about having a website that actually makes you money, you definitely want to consider the connection speed that the hosting company can offer.

There is one more thing that is even more important for your website's visitors than speed: that is

reliability and security.

Let's talk about reliability first. We just finished talking about this remote building somewhere that has basically nothing else in it, but a bunch of computers neatly arranged on racks (called the server farm) and tons of wires that connects them, plus a few computer technicians who supervise the flawless operation.

You cannot really judge how big a hosting company really is

by just looking at their website. It could be two guys in a basement with a few computers networked together running some version of Linux. Or it could be a big corporation with multiple high security buildings or server farms in multiple locations. Which one would you choose? We think the answer id pretty obvious.

However,

they both can produce very appealing websites and many times you cannot judge from their website how big they are.

Remember when we told you to make your website in a way so your company would look big to build on-line trust?

Our advice. Call them and find out if they have a server farm.

If they do not, then run to the other direction.

Normally, more serious hosting companies employ armed security personnel and 24 hour surveillance cameras on site (in their secure building) to prevent unauthorized intrusion. Also,

the most reliable hosting companies

have multiple server farms in different states. They usually select states that are not prone to natural disaster such as a hurricane, tornado or earthquake. The visitors of your website do not know and do not care how reliable the operation of your hosting company is because everything takes place in the background that they do not even notice when everything goes smoothly.

However, they usually become very well aware

of the lack of speed or the lack of the website itself when something went wrong. And many times even a small flaw that lasts only for a few hours can cost you your whole on-line business. It can certainly cost you almost a half a year of hard work; all that time that you took to develop on-line trust.

Hosting companies are very well aware of this and most of them pay very careful attention to the so-called uptime (meaning the hosted website is accessible by your visitors). Nowadays the industry standard for uptime is more than 99% but it canot reach 100%.

Anybody who promises 100% uptime should be handled with care.

Why? Because not even the best combination of all the previously mentioned and most carefully planned and executed measures can prevent machine malfunction. The hosting company needs to be prepared for that by providing adequate backup, in other words, redundancy. Not only the data need to be redundant on their servers though, but their connections to the outside world too. Now there is always a chance (even a slim one) all participants in a redundant server or connection go down at the same time, there is still a chance. We think, overly exaggerated claims can be a sales technique, that can often backfire.

Most reputable hosting companies usually promise you 99.9% uptime.

With discussing redundancy we arrived at the very sensitive topic of security. On-line attacks on hosting companies are relentless, vicious and sometimes successful and can be very damaging at times if they are not well prepared for them. That is why they have to have state of the art security software and qualified security experts in their team to make sure that they can always address any on-line security issues in a timely fashion (usually within minutes). Not only they should be able to provide security for their own servers, but they should provide security for the participating websites. Think about this way: the visitors of your website expect their data to be treated with the utmost care. Thus providing security to them on secured web pages protected by a security certificate on you site is absolutely necessary to build on-line trust.

Good hosting companies sell their own security certificates for a nominal fee

above their normal hosting fee or they can actually include them in their hosting package.

so far as being the determining factors in your selection of a good hosting company.

Last, but not least, let's talk about Customer Service here a little bit. We capitalized these two words because we think it is absolutely necessary to always be the best in that field to keep existing customers as they are the bread and butter of any company.

This statement applies to a hosting company even more because the selection is wide (there are thousands of hosting companies out there). Try to give them a test call and see how long you have to wait to get connected.

You may be surprised to find out that a really super fast, professionally looking website, rock bottom prices and ease of use covers up a customer service nightmare when you actually have to speak with a live person at a hosting company.

You always want to ask this question:

Do the customer service representatives at your selected hosting company communicate in English well enough to be able to understand your problem and explain the solution? If they do not, we suggest you should move on and go with someone else even when they cost a little more.

Better hosting companies now provide a 30 day money back guarantee. This way you can have a chance to speak with their Customer Service as a real customer, not to some professional salespeople who paint the company all rosy when they try to lure you in.

What is a hosting company anyway?

If you think about your website and compare it to your off-line business, you would understand easily. Do you rent or own your business location?

Let's say you rent your off-line business location. You pay rent to your landlord each month, aren't you? Now, let's visualize your website as your business. Imagine and think about this for a moment: Your website sits on a remote computer in a secure location. The data related to your website can be called

your on-line or virtual real estate.

The data requires space on the hard drive of that remote computer (we call that computer the server and we call the space that is used for storing the data of your website the server space). It costs money to the hosting company to run that remote computer and they want to recover that cost plus they want to make a profit as they are a business just like you. Therefore,

they charge a fee for the server space.

They also have to maintain a communication system infrastructure (it is usually some state-of-the-art fiber optic cable system) that allows them to transfer data in and out from the remote computer between your website and the rest of the world. Now this system usually costs even more for them than providing server space. Therefore they usually charge money for the amount of data that goes through the system between your website and the rest of the world. You can imagine that cable system as being a toll road in the real world. Each time you run errands on behalf of your business and you want to get things done quickly, there is a chance you would have to take a toll road and pay some toll, right? That is exactly how it works in the virtual world.

The toll road is the the fiber optic cable

that is between the remote computer that has your website (or hosts your website) and the toll is the fee for the data that the hosting company collects each month for a certain amount of data as the bandwidth fee. You can think of the monthly bandwidth fee as if you used an I-Pass on the toll road. The more you travel, the more money is taken out of your I-Pass account. The more data you use (or the more visitors you have), the more bandwidth fee you would have to pay. However, normally

the hosting company bundles

the rent that it collects for hosting your website and the band-width fee (toll-road fee) that it collects for the data (the bandwidth) that you use each month as one flat fee. So they are actually gouging you most of the time as you normally pay much more for your bandwidth as you should because they set their flat fees much higher than your actual usage would require (based the number of visitors you have).

Regardless, most of the time you would have to pay that combined fee each month as you would pay the rent to your landlord in the real world.

Sometimes the hosting company would let you pay its hosting fees in advance as one payment for a year so they do not incur multiple fees from their credit card companies and sometimes they pass these savings to you in form of a lower yearly hosting fee.

It is important for you to be aware a difference between the flat hosting fee and the domain registration fee.

The hosting fee as it was just explained before is the rent that your landlord (the hosting company) collects. It can be collected monthly, quarterly or yearly whichever way it is more convenient for you.

The domain registration fee is for your on-line business name

or sign (as you have your business sign on your off-line store). Once you installed that sign on your off-line store, you had to pay the sign maker and most likely get a permit for it and pay for that as well. It works very similarly in the virtual/on-line world. Your domain name is your business name or business sign on the Internet.

First, you have to find out whether it is available or not. There is a certain way to do that and most likely your hosting company will provide a way for you to check if your desired domain name is available or not.

There is a corporation called ICANN that maintains a database for every single domain name that is registered on the Internet. Maintaining this database costs money, therefore they charge a registration fee if you want to put your on-line business name or sign into that database.

Companies (the so-called registrar companies) on behalf of ICANN collect the registration fees on an annual basis. Most registrar companies allow you to register your domain name (business sign on the Internet) for increments of certain number of years.

The shortest increment (registration period) is one year, but you can register a name for as long as 100 years. After the registration period and a short grace period the name will be available for the public again if the registrant (the company who registers the domain name - in this example: your business) fails to pay the registration fee, in other words, fails to renew.

Domain names can be traded

and there are companies specializing in registering domain names in bulk and releasing them one buy one, usually charging a fairly high price for the best ones.

You may also want to know that some hosting companies throw in a free domain name for you for the first year to lure you in to their hosting service, then charge you top dollar for the following years.

Registering a domain name

through a specialized registrar company (without purchasing any hosting) is fairly inexpensive (normally around $10 per year) and a good hosting company will always disclose the amount of money they want to charge for the domain name after the first year or at renewal time. We highly recommend using an independent specialized domain registration company to avoid your hosting company's possible gouging.

We explained in the paragraph above in another way to make sure we are on the same page. We just mentioned that it is important to note that a lot of times hosting companies actually offer you to register your domain name with them. This means that

they are actually playing two different roles

(or as the industry jargon would say: wearing two different hats) at the same time. They play the role of the landlord who charges money as a rent (hosting fee) that you have to pay for your virtual real estate (your website) and they also play a role of the sign making company that charges for making your sign (your domain name) and getting the required permits for it. They even bundle a free domain name for the first year for you into their hosting price to get you in the door.

A lot of times they do not explain the difference

very well between their fees and do not point out clearly what their service fees are for. Did you ever feel being confused after speaking to them?

Some bigger hosting companies want to become the one-stop-shop for small businesses to satisfy their on-line presence needs. Besides hosting and domain name registration, they give you other services such as a 'free' WYSYWIG (What You See Is What You Get) editor in which you can put your own website together.

They even give you some marketing help

and some ad submission credit ('free' money that you can use to start your on-line pay per click advertising campaign). These sound all great and they are very legitimate tools to get you started if you have the time to do these tasks by yourself.

However,

keep in mind that doing these tasks in high quality is usually very time consuming and they take time away from running your business. Moreover, we have to note, that the hosting companies' specialty (what they are really good at) is hosting and maybe domain name registration. They just simply do not have the capacity to provide the necessary services (such as professional web site maintenance, and marketing service along with professional copywriting) in very high quality. A company who wants to provide these services in very high quality, must have a full time staff of experts on board who assist you and work with you every step of the way.

How many times did your hosting company call you

lately to get more relevant information from you about your planned web presence? How many times did they follow up and discussed the progress of the development of your on-line presence? How many times did they provide you with an easy to read, comprehensive progress report? Well, we cannot blame the hosting companies if they lacked any of these crucial communication segments with you because this is not their specialty.

By the same token, the exact same questions above can and should be asked about your current web design or Internet marketing company. Did any of them ever follow up after they took your hard earned money?

Sometimes hosting companies try to lure you

into a deal by giving you the possibility to set up thousands of e-mail addresses for your company all included in their hosting package for free of extra charge. This is pretty obvious, as the hosting companies want to up-sell their packages so they would even say that they throw all those many e-mail addresses for you for free if you order their services, switch to them or you are already with them, but want to sell you an upgrade.

One thing you can be certain about:

they will not give you those e-mail addresses for free. It costs them money to run an extra mail server just for that purpose. They will get their money from you in another way: most likely they charge a higher hosting fee that they should.

Now you always want to ask yourself:

are you going to use that many e-mail addresses in the first place? It is well worth having the capability of setting up several hundred e-mail addresses if you run a big company with multiple locations. However, when you have a smaller business, most likely you would not need that many. So the extra money they charge will be a waste because you are basically would be paying for something that you never use.

Have you ever gotten into a situation when big corporations charged you for certain products or services that you never needed?

How did you feel about that? Unfortunately, many hosting companies like bundling products and somewhat overcharge their customers. There are a few really good ones though who we can certainly recommend though.

Is Your Business Recession Proof? (Company News)

After Christmas Sale!

Only a few left! Rock bottom prices! Have you come across any of these headlines lately? Merchants are desperately trying to get rid of their inventories as the economy is plunging into a deeper and deeper recession. The Christmas shopping is officially over now, but many stores are still desperately trying to extend it as they know that their very survival might depend on it. As you may know, most merchants bread and butter is the holiday season. If they do not make enough money during this season, many of them most likely will go under next year. Cash flow has been terrible because credit is terrible thanks to the housing crisis and the under-regulated Wall Street financial 'gurus' like the guy who cheated $50 billion (yes, with a B) out of his clients. Nice going... Him was just the tip of the iceberg though. Everybody is talking about possible double digit unemployment, credit crunch, tight cash, deflation, the worst of the worst since the Great Depression in their economic outlook for next year. Many business owners have great DESPERATION and FEAR as they currently look into the future. For them, the future is unpredictable, SCARY.

Change has never been easy

Many time change brings many challenges, inconveniences and uncertainty. Many times it seems that the never ending good old ways that worked for many years all of a sudden become obsolete. Well, this might be so, but most likely the world was gradually changing around many people, but they just ignored it. Many put their heads in the sand waiting for the bothering trends that they were warned about to go away. However, many times, these trends became reality and know they are knocking on almost everybody's door giving a wake up call to all who thought they can watch the train of change pass from the sidelines and still prosper. These people were mistaken. They need to get on that train and ride with it. They need to adjust, open their minds and think outside of the box.

Change is here and let us tell you: change is good. Those who take action now will have a good chance to weather the crisis and survive and get back on their feet most likely a year from now. The rest will go under. Unfortunately, not all people will get a bailout.

The good news is

that there is one industry that is relatively intact from the current economic mess. Some parts of this industry is still thriving and most likely will be thriving for the years to come. What is this industry? Yes, it is on-line retail and on-line advertising. Did you hear the news? Amazon thinks it will post record sales for this Christmas season. How many off-line stores can say the same thing? We know that you are not Amazon and you do not have the money to blow on advertising. In fact, we want to STOP you from BLOWING your money on advertising. Do not do it! There is a smarter way. Advertising is an exact science that can be tracked, measured and tweaked until you becomes profitable and we are going to show you what we mean.

We have a new President Elect, who says he would do whatever it takes to help stimulating the economy. However, he will not be able to do miracles by himself as he stressed it out many times. He needs your help and YOU need your help. You need to stop being desperate or scared and have to get back your attention to the root of the problem.

What is the root of the problem?

We seriously believe that the root of the problem for small businesses right now is the lack of know-how in advertising.

But I know how to advertise! Who are you to tell
me how to run my business?

We never doubted that you
know how to advertise off-line.

Just slap a few ads
	in good ol' Yellow Pages

put an ad in your
local paper - always put a bigger ad than your competition:-)

print some posters
that you can put on bulletin boards in laundromats, churches and
	doctors offices

print flyers, give
them to your kids to drop them off at local businesses

buy a giant bulletin
board on the side of the highway if you still have money to blow

and your advertising is
taken care of, right?

Wrong! Your advertising just started here. These may by legitimate forms of advertising and perfectly make sense in many cases.

Let us tell you a secret

Yellow Pages is a dying industry. Why? Because most of the ads in there are no longer effective. Got any phone calls from your Yellow Pages listing lately? How much money did you spend on the ad? What was your ROI? Got that right, zero. We thought so.

Do not get us wrong, we are not here to judge you
or antagonize you in any way

You do whatever you feel like doing with your hard earned money. The only thing we ask you is just to listen to the wind of change. Let us tell you another secret: the way for smart small businesses to advertise today is not only the

Yellow pages

local newspaper ads

posters

flyers or

bulletin boards,

but advertising on-line the RIGHT WAY! Yes, it is on-line advertising.

But I already tried Internet advertising and it
did not work

We feel your pain. We were once in your shoes. We actually meticulously tested many ways of Internet advertising so we have very good ideas what works and what does not. Most likely the kind of Internet advertising you did was something similar to Yellow Pages directory advertising. A certain on-line directory listing. We feel sorry for you if the fast talking ad salesman did not explain it to you in detail. We know it could be very frustrating.

Here is a little insider information:

The success of Google proved that directories just simply do not work on the Internet. The biggest directory, Yahoo is ready to be chopped into pieces and most likely sold in the very near future. Why? On-line directories do not work. An insider study already showed that in the 60s.

Here are the facts about web surfers...

...of the Internet
(potentially, YOUR customers):

They are lazy (in
other words, they do not want to devote too much time to search for
	something)

they want instant
	gratification

and most of them
want to find a good deal.

How does their laziness translate to them doing
business with you?

They want simplicity, a straightforward solution to their problem. They will not click away in directories for several hours (not even minutes) to find YOUR business. They also want instant satisfaction (this comes from their laziness). If you can put yourself in front of them and you have an appealing solution that satisfy their need RIGHT AWAY, they will buy from YOU instead of the competition. This is basically the essence of on-line marketing. It sounds easy, but there are many minefields and traps out there. You can try doing this by yourself. 99% of the people do Internet marketing on the WRONG WAY and they blow their hard earned money and fail miserably.

And we previously made a deal that we do not want
you to blow your advertising money, did not we?

You need an expert. You need that 1% who knows what is going on. Otherwise you might as well write a check going straight to Google wishing them merry Christmas. This is the last thing Google wants you to do though. Their business model is not based on stealing people's hard earned money. They want to deliver results for you. They want you to succeed because you will spend more money with them in the long run if you are successful and stay with them. But you have to know their rules, the subtle ways of dealing with them. Advertising became a science again and many people found it out in the hard way. Which way do you want to go?

Here are some more facts about Internet surfers

80% of them are looking for something because they want to BUY and they are ready, willing and able to spend THEIR MONEY for the goods or services that YOUR BUSINESS can provide. So potentially you have a BIG market with many people who are looking for something to buy it. There is a slight setback though. You are not Amazon.com. You have no million dollar per month advertising budget. The good thing is that you have a nice amount of people in YOUR neighborhood in YOUR specialty that are looking for a solution to a problem that YOU can give them only because your LOCAL competition is not on-line yet or they do not know what they are doing.

There is no way that you can reach people on the
Internet locally

Wrong again. This statement was true even a few years ago, but things change in the world of the Internet very rapidly. Today, the technology is there and in fact, many entrepreneurs already started utilizing this possibility. And guess what? They are KILLING the market right now. The market that could be potentially YOURS. Why? Because there is almost NO COMPETITION in your area in your specialty LOCALLY on the Internet. The younger generation almost exclusively uses the Internet to find something and BUY it. The sooner you jump in the sooner you have a chance to reap your rewards and grow your business larger before your niche gets totally saturated.

But people do not have money to spend in my store

Now that is where the other part of the change factor comes in. If people have a problem and they seriously need something done, they will find the financial solution for it. And you can also help them with discounts or payment plans without compromising your profit. This is where creativity and thinking outside of the box mentality comes in. There is always another way, another solution, we just have to keep looking and testing and retesting until we find it. It is work and we work together. We will ask many questions first and we will find the most likely solution that will work for you on-line. And we will build your on-line presence around that solution.

Why should I believe you? What kind of guarantee
can you offer?

How would you separate the men from the boys? How can you tell if an offer has substance or not? 99% of Internet marketing 'gurus' are simple web design companies who want to sell you the 'latest and greatest' website they can create out there for you. They also spike it up with some "Internet marketing" flavor. Once they took your money, than guess what? You are on your own. And guess who is laughing all the way to the bank? It is not you. Got that right. Let us ask you a question: What kind of guarantee THEY are giving you? Do they ask any of these question you can find in our questionnaire?

Do they take any of these steps to make sure YOUR COMPANY will have a solid on-line presence? Did not think so. Our guarantee is simple: we will work with you very hard to make you successful on-line. Your success is our success.

Cyber Monday, Your Business and the Economy (Company News)

The old New Economy and CMS

What is Cyber Monday?

It is the on-line version
of Black Friday, right after Thanksgiving, the official start of the
holiday shopping season in which most merchants make their profit for
the whole year. This day became a widely celebrated day in the
on-line community in spite of the gloom and doom that was predicted
by some analysts back in 2000 after the bubble, created by the 'New
Economy' frenzy, burst.

How did it all start?

On-line shopping started
as early as the origination of the 'user friendly', or so-called
'public' Internet. How did this whole Internet phenomenon that makes
your life so easy (in most cases) come along? You may not know that
the Internet was originally a military project in which the main goal
was to get computers to talk to each other even when they were in the
different part of the country. The military leaders envisioned these
interconnected networks as part of the defense system. They wanted a
flexible network in which certain parts of the network are still
operational even when the other part is hit by the enemy.

So ARPANET
was born.

Eventually this military
project, similarly to other previous ones (just like the radar or the
television), the predecessor of the Internet made its way to the
civilian life. By the end of the 1980s all major universities, bigger
public and private institutions in the United States were
interconnected. Many users used a so-called bulletin board system
(BBS) to send messages, share information and even files with each
other electronically from the distance. In those days personal
computers just started to evolve and they were difficult and clumsy
to use so one had to be a technical expert, in other words, a 'nerd
or geek' to be able to use them.

Then everything changed.

The user friendly,
graphical interface that was initially developed, but then actually
scrapped by Xerox got picked up and tweaked by some very talented
software engineers at Apple. Their creativity, innovation and hard
work lead to the development of the first Macintosh computers that
were the predecessors of today's convenient graphical user interface
(GUI) that an average user with minimal technical knowledge is able
to use. To make the long story short, eventually Microsoft's Windows
operating system revolutionized the way computing was done and gave
way to millions of people to join the action and eventually have a
small part of the phenomenon called the kind of Internet that an
everyday person can easily use.

Many skeptics initially called the
Internet just a toy for kids...

...or adults who wanted
to be kids again. However, most of the participants in the cyber
action had actually something else in mind. They wanted the Internet
to be a useful tool for the masses. Something that can be used to
assist solving problems, delivering information and sharing files
(just like in the good old BBS days), but on a much larger scale with
many more people involved. There was also a movement that rapidly
started to develop in the newly created cyberspace in the mid 90s
that focused on utilizing it for generating income and eventually
setting up a business model that can provide a new way of doing
business in many areas. Yahoo and Amazon were the pioneers in that.
Yahoo focused on generating revenue from advertising other businesses
on its portal. Amazon was one of the first on-line retailers giving
grounds to today's massive e-commerce and on-line advertising.
Basically the Internet and e-commerce developed hand-in-hand. This
development was not without pain, however.

Many venture capitalists saw a big
opportunity...

...to make a quick buck
on the Internet in the late 90s so they started to invest heavily in
the emerging so-called 'new economy'. The buzz was on. They gave
billions and billions of dollars to new startups with no real
business plans and no strategic vision for the long term. As you may
remember, this era was called the dotcom boom or craze. In 1999 and
early 2000 the Internet all of a sudden became a hot commodity and
everybody started to jump in. And that created an enormous bubble
(almost as big as the housing bubble lately). In 1999 there were 4
times more IPOs (Initial Public Offerings) on the NASDAQ than in
2001. Over 90% of the new IPOs doubled in price in 1999 whereas only
a few of them made close to doubling in 2001. There was even one more
factor that contributed to the bubble. Remember the Y2K scare? In
1999 many companies got huge sums of money for fixing a problem that
affected some computers mainly in the banking system. After fixing
the problems, most of these companies disappeared along with the
money that was given to them.

	During the dotcom craze
many analysts (interestingly, sometimes the same skeptics who, a few
years earlier were ready to write off the Internet as a toy for kids)
now envisioned a bright future with the new economy in the center.
They pointed out that in this new economy there would be no need for
physical stores or shopping malls, no need for cars because everybody
would shop on-line and work through telecommuting from his/her
computer.

Then came March 11, 2000.

On this day the NASDAQ literally
crashed and continued to lose its value until late 2002.

What went
wrong?

After almost 8 years
later and finally figuring out how e-commerce really works we can
safely say that during the infancy of the new economy companies

did not know what they
were doing

far less than honest

did not have a long
term vision

Those companies who
survived the dotcom bust lacked the previously mentioned negative
properties. They were success driven, had a long term vision and
wanted to do business honestly. Among them was Google that was just a
startup around that time and consisted of two kids in the basement at
Stanford University working on a school project that later turned out
to be the predecessor of the sophisticated search algorithm that
underpins today's Google's search technology.

In the infancy of
e-commerce, logistics and handling it properly became a major
headache that turned into a nightmare to most of the companies. It
was not unusual that someone ordered presents for Christmas only to
get them in March in the following year. Why did this happen? Many
dotcoms did not have good order tracking software. In fact, many of
them only had the good, old fashioned way: pen and paper. Imagine: a

multi-million dollar software company with pen and paper

order
tracking.... Amazon's founder was one of the few people who
recognized that he needed to do something different than the rest the
guys. In its infancy, Amazon was selling nothing else, but books and
they did their order tracking by hand. But as they grew, they
realized really fast that they need to implement a way that ordinary
people (their order handlers) with minimal computer knowledge need to
be able to handle the orders from an easy to use web page through a
network. So this recognition gave birth to the first generation of
so-called on-line or web-based applications that became popular in
the commercial world within a few years. Sure, there were web-based
applications before: they were used by the military, banks, power
plants and traffic controllers. These were clumsy, required expert
users and the underlying systems were beyond an everyday startup
company's pocket. So it was not until the mid 90s when the first
widely used web based applications started to gain ground. And even
then most of the time, only 'intelligent' on-line merchants used
them. One of the first on-line merchants who let their customer use
their web-based applications heavily was E-bay with its unique
approach of brokering deals between people selling and buying
on-line.

	Venture capitalists
pulled the plug

on the dotcom companies and the so called 'new
economy' collapsed. Over 95% of these companies disappeared
overnight. Many of their owners got lucky and cashed in before the
bust and 'parachuted' into companies with a different approach to
e-commerce and on-line selling. Instead of trying to make money on
the Internet themselves they went out as 'consulting experts' and
found small business owners and promised them that the professionally
looking websites that their companies design would make those small
business owners very rich in a very short period of time. Their
methods actually worked initially and they were tremendous successes
indeed, in the beginning. As you may imagine, shortly after the
initial successes, almost everybody started doing web design. That
was when web design kits started to become popular and even a kid in
the basement was able to design a professionally looking website. The
underlying software for these website was overwhelmingly Flash which
gave highly graphically intensive, many times absolutely beautiful
web pages that moved around, played music and looked really
professional. There are companies that even today want to sell Flash
websites. Flash does have its place as it is a useful tool for a
well-established business to reaffirm brand awareness and brand
recognition.

However, Flash had and
still have a few setbacks:

It is a proprietary
software that still does not work right in many browsers (the
software that is capable of showing web pages from the Internet)

It took too much
bandwidth (data that could be transferred from the website's storage
computer to the computers of the people who were looking at the
site)

It was too clumsy to
handle e-commerce effectively from it

Search engines were not
able to recognize and index the content of Flash web pages (they
still cannot do that)

It required a lot of
tedious work from the part of the web designer (or they said so),
therefore they charged way much more than the site is actually worth
(and they are still overcharging).

	In the meantime CMS was
somewhat forgotten.

Mostly some college kids, the so called 'geeks
and nerds' used it and continued developing it. Some of the bigger
users of the CMS were the few of the dotcom companies that survived
the bust. At that time (all the way up to 2005) Flash was thriving.
Everybody wanted a Flash website. However, many business owners soon
realized that they did not get the bang for their buck and many of
them abandoned their websites and wrote off the huge expense as
advertising cost. Many of the web design companies started to have
problems selling Flash. So, easy by easy they started to look at CMS
and web based applications a little more in depth. Many web design
companies recognized the importance of these and nowadays they are
very aggressively and heavily pushing their template based websites
that look very 'modern' to unsuspecting clients.

	Regardless, how 'modern'
an offer that you come across with may look, one thing you must not
forget as a reasonable business owner: Do you remember the 'good old
days' when web design companies came to you and told you that they
would design you a website that would make you rich?

The same guys
are doing their trick again,

this time with CMS systems. If a fast
talking salesman comes to you promising that their company will
design a 'modern looking' CMS based website and provide Internet
marketing 'service', just ask them if they have this questionnaire or
anything similar to that.

	Have you heard of
Myspace?

Your kids most likely have. Since the birth of Myspace
almost everything changed overnight in the way business owners and
Internet users (your customers) look at web design and the way they
should look at web design companies. A new concept called the Web 2.0
was developed.

What is Web 2.0?

In a nutshell: the
content of the Web no longer belongs to the web design companies, but
belongs to, made by and constantly updated by you, the consumer or
the business owner. Many social networking websites followed Myspace
(Facebook is the biggest one and now it overtook Myspace as it has a
neater interface that users like better) and they are in fierce
competition for your advertising dollars. Their business model and
the chance of survival is still questionable, many experts say. For
example, Linked-In, a prestigious social networking website for
executives and business owners just recently got a substantial
capital infusion from an investor.

	The good news is that
the consequence of social media and web 2.0, a new concept called
'cloud computing' was formed. Cloud computing is nothing else but
your business doing lead generation, fulfillment, communication,
placing and tracking of all business participants and activities on
an easy to use content management system on the Internet. Why is this
important? You as the business owner do not need to invest heavily on
equipment and infrastructure on your business location and you pay
only when you use the services. Personalized web based applications
can do almost everything you can imagine for your business in the
'cloud' (in other words, on the Internet). We specialize in
developing many of these applications for you based on your
circumstances and we do take your strained budget into consideration.

The Almighty Google

The reason why the social
networking business model is still questionable is because of the
mere existence of Google. By now that school project in the late 90s
became a multi-billion dollar company and they dominate the on-line
advertising market. How did they do that?

One word: relevancy

	Google built its
business model on that. Did you know that today the majority of
people go on-line to find something that they want to purchase or
find a service they want to use? Now that is a far cry from the
Internet's "toy for kids" status, isn't it? Google made
this possible because it delivers relevant results, because people
find what they want and they are happy with what they find. Of course
there are ways to "fool" a search engine and Google is not
perfect either, but nowadays they "slap out" companies who
try to "fool" (use tricks to deliver irrelevant results)
it.

Web 2.0 is great because it
increases relevancy.

	There is another form of
web 2.0 that forms its majority and that is called blogging and
blogs. Blogs are certain web pages that initially the industry called
web logs and later they just simply called them blogs. In other
words, blogs are on-line diaries and they usually have something to
do with a very specific topic and they are personal. A blog has a
main area where the editor(s) can write and there is the comment area
where people who want to make a comment can write. Therefore blogs
are very relevant because they are usually topic specific and created
by real people. Almost anybody who writes a blog nowadays is
considered as an 'expert' on a certain field. Whether that expertise
is valid or not is sometimes hard to tell. However, when many other
people agree with the blogger in the blog's comment area, the
prestige of the blogger gets higher. Blogs are also organic which
means the entries are usually made on a volunteer basis and usually
people who enter their opinion in a blog are not paid. Therefore, the
opinions in blogs and the links to or from blogs are natural and
relevant and that is what Google wants. Google also stressed that it
wants to keep the Internet open and it will not favor paid back links
coming from blogs to your site.

Why is it important what Google
wants? Because currently over 70% of all searches on the Internet are
done on Google.

	It was not always like
that. In the beginning there were thousands of search engines. You
may remember the fierce competition between Yahoo, Hotbot, Webcrawler
and Lycos, to name a few. Companies spent astronomical amounts of
money to take the first positions among search results. Revenue was
coming in and they were all thriving. Then Google came and changed
the playing field. Google set new rules for search and now many
people question the mere need for the ailing Yahoo that soon could
fade into oblivion as it will be most likely be gobbled down by
Google and AOL.

What does all this mean to you and
your business and your on-line sales?

	Basically, you have to
play by Google's rules if you want to make sure people notice your
business on-line. Does it mean that you have to be afraid of the 'big
bad' Google as many people (including the US Government) expressed
serious concerns about Microsoft in the late 90s and early 2000s?
Remember the frenzy that surrounded the launch of Gmail, Google's
mail service? Many said, that 'big bad Google' would read your e-mail
and they would seriously violate your privacy. They did not. Remember
the Viacom vs. Google lawsuit? Google stood by its customers and
refused to give out personally identifiable data on users who
uploaded questionable material by Viacom onto Youtube, owned by
Google. When the US Government tried to force Google to disclose
information on certain groups of people who look at websites with
questionable content, Google stood by its customers and refused to
share even after all major Internet Service Providers (such as AOL,
Comcast and AT&T did so).

	Google's philosophy is
simple:

privacy is the number one priority and money can be made
without doing evil. They have a very strong ethics code and they do
not share private information because they know that in the instance
they do it, they will break the trust of the majority of their users
who see them as a useful and powerful partner in their Internet
ventures whether it is search or doing business on-line.

The most important rule in Google Search:

the more relevant you are, the better your chances are to get
your business to the first two pages of the search results.
Statistics show that over 80% of the people who search on the
Internet are looking for a certain product and service and ready,
willing and able to pay for it. Now it is OUR job, to show YOU as the
business owner:

How to play by Google's
rules and get YOUR company listed on the first two pages where your
potential buyers look

How to create on-line
trust that makes people buy from YOU instead of your competition

How to stay relevant
and stay on the first two pages for a long time

How to actually make a
profit (after all expenses are deducted)

What does all this mean
to YOU during the economic meltdown that most off-line businesses
currently feel? If you act now, before your competition wakes up, you
have a good chance to weather the crisis and come out on top. Many
companies are confused and trim their advertising budgets and they
are AFRAID. This is the time of action and reconsidering the
direction where your advertising dollars should go. Industry experts
say that...

...over 80% of advertising dollars
are totally wasted

Why? The advertiser
usually does not track or has no clue how to track the effectiveness
of his or her ad. Would you still buy advertisement though if you
knew it worked and you are able to track it? There are
scientifically proven methods that our company employs that will let
you know whether your ads would work or not even before you spend
serious money on them.

The economic meltdown is
your wake up call: it is time to act now, before it is too late! If
you want to stay on the surface, redirect your advertising dollars
towards advertising that is proven to work and let your company take
advantage of the re-emerging

New Economy.

This New Economy will be
strong this time and it will be here to stay because there is
substance, expertise and hard work is behind it. In the last 8 years
the on-line marketing industry learned a lot and thanks to Google,
search became more relevant. The majority of the companies worked out
their logistical issues and their customers now feel comfortable
buying on-line. And most importantly: the younger generation almost
exclusively uses the Internet for almost everything in their daily
lives. If you want to stay in business for the long run, you'd better
be equipped with 21st century tools and methods to conquer the hearts
and the wallets of the new generation who will help the New Economy
thrive.

So, can Cyber Monday save
the US economy and give a boost to YOUR business? Well, it certainly
can next year. The shopping season is almost over now, but this is
the time to make your New Year's Resolution. We are ready to talk to
you about it. Our Web Solution Experts are standing by. Call now!

Their Secret to Success... What About You? (Company News)

November 4, 2008. It was only a
few weeks ago since we have a new President Elect. Currently the
President Elect is busy putting a new team together to help him govern
the country after January 20, 2009. They are getting ready to deal with
the economy and a host of other issues that our country currently
faces. One, almost forgotten aspect now is the way they actually got
here by promising change.

And yes, the way their campaign was
conducted already brought about change on how campaigns will get done
in the future. From now on, anyone with the right mind will follow the footsteps of their campaign. We are not talking about politics or political slogans here.....

We are talking about Internet Marketing

Reaching out to the new generation, building an on-line
community. We are sure you probably heard about this before but, now
more than ever building an on-line community will become the trend. So you probably want to know:

What is this on-line community?

We call it Web 2.0 There are several different, often very complex
definitions for it. We want to skip those because we want to provide
simplicity while giving you substance. Let us make it very simple: It
basically means that

the content of the Internet is no longer made by web design companies,

but by you, the average person, the website owner who has the power and the tools to change the content of your website without the need of hiring an expert web design company. You also have the power

to voice your opinion as an expert

express your likes and dislikes

and even set new trends.

Your website's content is also formed by your visitors...

...as they make comments, ask questions and submit their own views and
stories related to the product and service that you advertise and sell.
You as a blogger or an expert reader making a comment on some relevant
blog, have a chance to voice your opinion, comment as an expert, and
share your views with the rest of the community, thus forming the
content of someone else's website. In this new way of communication you as a business owner can organically build your presence and create the much needed on-line trust and respect that is necessary to build from the moment your web presence starts to exist.

The combination of trust and your message...

...will make your visitors buy from you on-line or go to your off-line store and buy your products or use your services.

This is great news...

…because today the search engines are designed to reward websites that use a lot of useful and relevant content.
Thus the page rank of your website will increase and with time and a
little patience you can have a good chance to be found on the first two pages among the organic search results.

It even gets better...

…because today (people), your potential customers, usually look only on the first two pages among the search results, when they search for something. This means there will be a very high probability that they would find you, but would not find your competition across the street who is still trying to use the old fashioned marketing methods that no longer work.

Did you know?...

...that the majority of people searching on-line do this with the intention of purchasing something? That is right. They are looking for YOUR product, YOUR service and they HAVE the money to pay for it.
So if you have a presence on the Internet, you have a chance to
complete a transaction with them. We want to point out the trust issue
again. It is not enough for your company to have a website.
In fact it was never enough. Nowadays you need all the sophisticated
techniques that Barack Obama's campaign used to build a very solid web
presence.

Yeah, this sounds great, but Obama had a lot of money...

This is true. And why did he have so much money? Because of his web presence!

Initially, he had no money,

just some talented people around him to make this happen.

Now, the good news is that our company uses the same exact methods as the Obama campaign people used for the fraction of the price. This is not the end, but only the beginning of the whole story.....

You may not like his agenda or his policies. We are not here to make a political point. We want to be 100% politics free and want to focus on what we do best:

Save

our unmatched comprehensive on-line marketing strategy.

So why
bring up Barack Obama?

After he got swept into the presidency by a landslide, all the pundits, the critics and the political experts came out with endless number of analysis that explained why and how he won. We have not seen a single one of the analysts actually explaining his victory from a pure Internet marketing standpoint. That is exactly what we intend to do.

In our opinion his success was greatly due to the fact that his campaign used almost every existing on-line presence strategy in the book. Why? The younger generation uses the Internet almost exclusively to:

find
	restaurants, movies, or friends, etc.

do
	research for a school projects

look up the world news<strike>.
	</strike>

The minds of the younger generation have been conditioned to use gadgets and widgets and they want the relevant information instantly. The business who most effectively delivers the information they are looking for will take their money and the rest can close shop and move on. This is exactly what happened during this campaign. One party did excellent on-line marketing and they won, the others were not so great and lost.

Why?

Almost 90%

His
campaign reached out to this generation through the Internet by using
all the available technology:

blogs

forums

discussion
	panels

on-line

	per click advertisement submission

on-line

All these methods were great tools for building an on-line community, a database of supporters. The campaign's real secret weapon lied within its e-mail list. There was constant communication of the latest news and developments, instant answers to the opponent’s statements and all relevant information that helped the voters reinforce their decision they made when they signed up on his e-mail list.

This sounds
great. But does this have anything to do with MY BUSINESS?

These methods and tools above are part of any well crafted on-line marketing strategy. A sophisticated system can be utilized by your company and the sooner you recognize the importance of a well crafted on-line marketing strategy the further ahead you’ll be of your competition who is still trying to find its way out of the darkness in our current era of economic meltdown. The younger generation is here to stay and they want to have a say so.

We are not taking political sides here. However, we do want to stress that in the world of business and marketing a significant change is coming. Those who adjust to this change will prevail, those who do not will lose. Are you prepared?

We call it Web 2.0 You may have already heard about it. There are several different, often very complex definitions for it.
Do you Own a Restaurant? (Company News)

Dear Fellow Restaurant Owner

We got something that will blow your mind! We test drove our new Table Planner and people said it is definitely something that an owner of a busy restaurant can use!

Why?

Because it helps him/her save time and money.

How?

You as the owner of the restaurant, or your manager/hostess (or a slightly computer literate person, who knows how to click with a mouse... ) can assign groups of guests to tables on the screen of a laptop. Yes, with a click of a mouse. Very simple.

So? Why is that important?

It is Saturday night. A big game is on and a very popular band just came to town. You happened to invite them to play at your restaurant. You put the word out and your phone is ringing off the hook. You already have 124 people who made reservations, but you can seat only 112 people at the same time (that includes every possible chair you found in the restaurant plus the ones that Uncle Jimmy brought in the last minute).

You are glad because you know you will have a lot of guests coming in tonight, but you are also somewhat worried about seating that many people. You are confident that your staff can handle it, but you are still praying that everybody would show up in their best mood. This night can be awesome, but it can turn out to be horrible.

So you ask your manager to try to figure out where to put all these people. He grabs a piece of paper and a pen and starts drawing the map of the restaurant. Then he finds the groups who come at the same time and assigns them to available tables.

He is working on it for a while, then he gets sidetracked. Few phone calls about the menu, then a delivery guy comes in with huge boxes of meat that needs to go to the freezer right away, but your manager finds out that the freezer is busted. So he calls a maintenance service and tells the dishwashers to go downstairs and put the meat in the other freezer. And problems just keep popping up and it goes on and on.

The seating chart is still not ready. Then finally the hostess comes in and can work on the seating assignments. A lot more reservations keep coming in, now you are up to 148 people. The hostess is frantically working to try to put the guests on the seating chart besides handling all the phone calls.

You are so glad that you have a hostess who knows what she is doing.... What if she does not?

By the time she finishes, the chart resembles to some kind of zero x game as there are so many vaguely legible, often crossed out names and numbers show up next to the circles that symbolize the tables. As long as she can read it and knows where to seat the guests and to find the next available server to assign the next guest group that comes in, your manager is happy, the servers are happy. And when the servers are happy, they sell more because they keep their guests happy who buy more. This is a restaurant, not rocket science...:-)

Talking about science...

We are sure you would agree: Running a restaurant is an art. And yes, nowadays it becomes a science because of the fierce competition. It is no longer you, as an owner of a small restaurant competing against Jack down the street who is well known about his overcooked pasta. Nowadays you compete against huge corporations who use every scientific method available under the Sun to squeeze out the last drop of profit from their location.

Back to the hostess

After meticulously working on the seating chart for about 2 hours finally your hostess is ready to go. She put all the guests to all the available places and even made a few phone calls to shift some reservations to a later time to make sure guests do not have to wait for their table too long. She even sets up designated sections for the waitstaff with the assistance of the manager.

Once everything is ready, the guests start coming in. Around 5:30 PM only a few guests show up at the same time and there is plenty of room to put them in, everything goes great and very smoothly...

But now it is 7:00 PM...

...and the guests just keep pouring in group after group. It gets to a point when things start to get really confusing. Your hostess is seating the guests while the phone keeps ringing, but nobody answers it because everybody is busy doing something else to take care of the unexpected flood of people who came in besides the ones who already had reservations. Some servers get so confused that they do not bring the right appetizer to the right table so your guests start complaining. Then later it turns out that some of the servers did not get enough tables while others were overwhelmed. And they start fighting in front of the guests... So now the situation can be described with one word:

Chaos...

And this Saturday was handled by your good hostess... And your enthusiastic manager and waitstaff.... What if you had more inexperienced employees trying to handle this? That would have been a disaster. And you know well, that you cannot afford chaos, you cannot afford disaster. It costs you 5 times more to acquire a new guest than to keep a returning one. Your advertising expenses are skyrocketing, but you still have a lot of complaints on your comment cards. It seems like a never ending fight...

But... What if ....?

...it did not take your manager and hostess over three hours to set up a seating chart?

....there was a way to easily change around the seating chart in real time to fit the needs of the always-late-calling, but deep pocketed guests of yours?

....there was a way for your hostess or manager to follow each table in real time and tell each walk-in guest exactly how long they need to wait to be seated?

....there was a way to distribute the workload among your servers fairly based on their knowledge and skills?

We have some good news:

There is a solution to all of the problems above. A good picture is worth more than a thousand words. A good video made by restaurant professionals is even better.
Fantastic Job (Company News)

I am very excited that my web site is giving me great results. My Internet sales through the airfare booking engine almost tripled in the last few month. I feel very good every time when I see the money coming in. I still remember my very first sale. It was so amazing! This extra income from my web site is really helpful for me and my daughter. I am so grateful that I found these Myetus guys who did a great job and were very helpful and professional. I know little about computers, websites and the Internet. Their Back Office system made it very easy for me to update my website on a regular basis on my own instead of paying a web designer over and over again. I also received several phone calls from my customers complimenting the nice graphics on my website. I plan to open another office soon and will ask the Myetus guys again to help me with some more on my website.

Sincerely, Monika Ormos
www.seboktravel.net

An ideal logo design harmonizes with the product for which it is created. While staying simple and unique, an ideal logo transmits values and benefits of the product through real emotions. On the other hand, a logo is not a standalone piece of artwork, it is always a part of a larger structure, a document header/footer, a website, a car painting or even a tattoo. This is why we provide several variants of the original work.
